New Video for The Velocet: "Concertina"
Of course, my friend Aron's band finally came out with the video to my favorite song of theirs...just AFTER they've supposedly broken up (think I'm asmellin' a reunion, people).
Check out the video; it's some brilliant work by stop motion director Bil Thompson. KUDOs, boys.

My Favorite Song Today...and Probably for the Rest of the Month Until I'm Completely Sick of It.
WHO KNEW the Swedes were rocking out so hard??? Not me! I love, love LOVE this song: "Put Your Arms Around Me" by Jens Lekman. Although I'm a bit late in the game (this song is old) I'm going to HAVE to check them out when they play Webster Hall this April 5th. Check it out.

Perfect Start To Your Friday Night Date Night...

"The RUBIN MUSEUM OF ART presents a new music series that goes to the heart of the matter...
"NAKED SOUL"
Naked Soul is an all acoustic and unamplified music series in RMA's intimate 137-seat theater, an exquisite cherry wood-lined room with some of the finest acoustics in NYC. The artists will be performing their music as it was meant to be heard – no microphones, no amplifiers, just the artists' voices and instruments, as if they were, acoustically speaking, naked. The musicians performing in the series all share a common thread and will draw upon the universal themes inherent in Himalayan art – spirituality, peace, tolerance, wisdom, and compassion.
Sold-out performances have included Michelle Shocked, Richard Shindell, Lucy Kaplansky, and Issa (formerly Jane Siberry).
Presented with Music Without Borders and supported by WFUV.
The K2 Lounge is from 6 PM until late, every Friday night. Performances start at 7 PM. Happy Hour is 6-7 PM. Tickets include admission to RMA's galleries."

Duets with Jennifer Charles of Elysian Fields

I know this comes a week too late, but I had to make mention of it because I really enjoyed this performance. Last Valentine's Day I went to see Jennifer Charles of Elysian Fields sing various duets with
Marc Ribot (http://youtube.com/watch?v=uGSI8CuH1nQ)
Jim Thirlwell, Steve Bernstein,
Nina Persson (of the "Love Fool" Cardigans),(http://youtube.com/watch?v=uJ5dOTDo2nU&feature=related)
Thomas Bartlett, actor Kevin Corrigan, members of The Honorary Title, TV On The Radio, and Ed Pastorini at Hiro Ballroom on 17th and 9th Ave. It was absolutely the hipster version of a 60's beatnick lounge vibe with a variety of berets, suits, cool hair, and tight hipster jeans. I half expected people to snap (no, I wasn't even a thought in my parents' pants in the 60's but I've heard stories). It was quite the artsy event and I loved every second of it. Jennifer's sultry voice accommodated each and every performer seemlessly, particularly with the boys of The Honorary Title (Think the "Bridge and Tunnel" song-you've ALL heard this song)
Although it's past and you can't go to this extravaganza of duets...(promise I'll give you better notice next time), I highly suggest you keep an eye out for performances by any of these artists. They're all immensely talented and I'm always about supporting the arts...you should, too. Just wear your tightest pair of skinny jeans and have really cool hair.

hello human: Just 'Cuz I Love Them...

Actually, I just love the drummer, Steve Copeletti. I've known him since 9th grade and he's been my best guy friend ever since. You gotta love a guy you've known since puberty...
And you gotta love his new band, hello human, 'cuz they just rock quite properly. They're a very talented bunch of guys. If you know anyone who can sign them, just do it.
"the story of hello human begins around mid-2007 in pompano beach, florida. influenced by american indie rock, power pop and shoegaze, hello human was formed by adam rosenberg, mike johnson, steven copeletti (collaborators in early 2k shoegazer band whirlaway) and chris polito (former remedy session guitarist/vocalist). the group is currently mixing tracks to their first series of sound exploration with tony lash of elliot smith, dandy warhol’s fame."
Check out their new song "Since I've Lost You" on myspace: www.myspace.com/hellohumanband
Enjoy!
